What’s Where? Ozona, Crystal Beach, Lake Tarpon and East Lake and More, Oh My! Understanding the Layout of Palm Harbor
Surprisingly, Palm Harbor is not a city. Palm Harbor was originally known as Sutherland and is part of unincorporated Pinellas County with a over 60,000 residents. This town is nestled on the Gulf Mexico north of Dunedin and Clearwater and just south of Tarpon Springs.
Palm Harbor has four sections to it – Crystal Beach, Ozona, Palm Harbor (west Palm Harbor) and East Lake. If you’re not from the area, this may seem a bit odd or confusing, yet you might find it helpful to know that all four sections are each also known as “Palm Harbor”. Sometimes Crystal Beach and Ozona are thought of as large neighborhoods, yet in reality there are lots of neighborhoods within these ‘towns’.
Lake Tarpon separates and runs vertically between Palm Harbor (including Crystal Beach and Ozona) and East Lake. East Lake Palm Harbor offers newer home construction in lush mostly deed restricted neighborhoods. For homes in Palm Harbor ’proper’, you’ll find a mixture of historic homes in the downtown area, beautiful subdivisions built in the 1970′s, 80′s and 90′s (many of these homes have been updated) and a sprinkling of newer construction. To the West of Alternate 19 (and ’West’ Palm Harbor ‘proper’), are is where you’ll find the homes right on the Gulf of Mexico. These waterfront Palm Harbor homes for sale are located in the Crystal Beach and Ozona sections of Palm Harbor. In these two golf-cart friendly communities, you’ll find everything from multi-million dollar luxury waterfront estates to funky ”Old-Florida’ cottages – and everything in between.
Palm Harbor Florida is very popular with parents because of it’s well-known public and private schools and is overall a very ‘kid-friendly’ community, though there are plenty singles and retirees.
‘Old Downtown’ Palm Harbor
Throughout the year there are street festivals and art shows in the old downtown on Florida Avenue. Here’s a video of the little downtown area on a sleepy morning, though at festival time, it’s jam packed!
