Pinellas Short Sale Realtors on Scams and Fees for Pinellas County Short Sales
Pinellas Short Sale Realtors and ‘processors’ can NOT charge any upfront fees for short selling your house or working on a loan modification. That being said, we do earn money processing Pinellas County Short Sales – and your agent or processor MUST disclose this.
Sadly there still are unscrupulous folks were out there charging upfront fees and proposing scams to struggling homesellers. What a shame! The only excpetion to this is if you hire a foreclosure defense ATTORNEY – and there are many great reasons for doing that – though we’ll address soon in another post.
This year, the FTC or Federal Trace Commission, in an effort to protect homeonwers from predatory practices and fraud, came out with MARS – the Mortgage Assistant Relief Services ruling which requires that your agent disclose their fees to represent you up front. While we’ve always disclosed this information, it’s nice to know that all people in our industry are now required to be as equally up-front. So, if you’ve in the midst of a Pinellas short sale and your agent hasn’t provided you with “MARS” forms – you better ask why not!
