Fred Howard Beach Reopening and Tarpon Springs Homes for SaleLast week I was out showing Tarpon Springs homes to friends relocating from out of state, and drove them to Fred Howard Beach for the full tour.  Sadly, the beach portion of the park STILL isn’t open!   Yet the residents from the nearby Tarpon Springs neighborhoods were still enjoying themselves at the adjacent 50-acre park which remains open.
Located at 1700 Sunset Drive in Tarpon Springs, Fred Howard Park features a white, sandy beach that stretches along the spectacular Gulf of Mexico and greets almost 2 million visitors a year. Sadly, the two bridges and roadway approach to the beach have been closed since September, 2008.  Yet the wait is almost over!  The contractor is on schedule to reopen this fall 2009 We’ll keep you posted on the grand reopening!  (Pinellas Beach goers – for another Peach of a beach in the mean time, Honeymoon Island in Dunedin still rocks!)Fred Howard Beach Park is the perfect venue to watch Pinellas County’s famous sunsets and to view Florida ospreys, dolphins, and eagles.   The park is an oasis for both endangered and threatened species, such as gopher tortoises and fox squirrels.  You’ll also have the opportunity to train your binoculars on all kinds of butterflies and birds.  For more interactive pursuits, you can fish or check out the sports craft launching area for canoeing and kayaking and the waterway trails that follow.    For a guided tour, be sure to talk to the folks at Simply Kayaking who offer adventures at many locations in Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor.
Got kids?  Those living in nearby East Lake and Tarpon Springs homes know that for birthday parties, nearby Fred Howard Park can’t be beat.   There’s a ball field, two playgrounds, more than 90 picnic tables and nine shelters with grills and tables.  Shelter reservations are still available year round by calling (727) 453-3171.

Great blog and info. I live in Sarasota but will try to stop at Howard Beach Park soon. The photo makes it look like a beautiful and fantastic place. This would be a perfect park and beach for me to shoot a travel video for my business website. All the best.
